Fluid Rhythm Art Quilt
Energetic and rhythmic flowing lines are featured in this art quilt composition. The left half of the piece is dominated by deep shades of red and navy blue, creating a bold contrast with the right half, where vivid orange and dark green hues take prominence. The fluid lines are luminous against the darker background. The entire composition is textured with fine, linear ridges running vertically across the surface, adding depth and movement to the abstract design.
After hand cutting pieces of solid colored fabric, designing the composition, and sewing the pieces together I layered the quilt top with cotton batting and stitched many closely-spaced lines through the layers to add texture. This is called matchstick quilting.
I finished it with a sewn facing giving the quilt frameless straight edges. On the back of the quilt I sewed a fabric sleeve which holds a wooden slat (Included). The slat has a small eyebolt at each end so you can hang the quilt on the wall with two nails. The slat is slightly narrower than the quilt so the slat and nails won’t be visible when the quilt is hung on the wall.
