Rhythmic Weave Art Quilt
This abstract quilt composition evokes organic and rhythmic weaving filled with bold, irregular horizontal and vertical lines. The vibrant color palette is diverse, including deep blues, reds, yellows, greens, browns, blacks, whites, and pinks. The lines appear hand drawn within each block and they vary in thickness and direction, creating a dynamic contrast between the segments. The textured surface adds a sense of depth and movement to the piece, emphasizing the interplay of color and line. The overall effect is one of geometric harmony combined with rhythmic variation.
After hand cutting pieces of solid colored fabric, designing the composition, and sewing the pieces together I layered the quilt top with cotton batting and stitched many closely-spaced lines through the layers to add texture. This is called matchstick quilting.
I finished it with a sewn facing giving the quilt frameless straight edges. On the back of the quilt I sewed a fabric sleeve which holds a wooden slat (Included). The slat has a small eyebolt at each end so you can hang the quilt on the wall with two nails. The slat is slightly narrower than the quilt so the slat and nails won’t be visible when the quilt is hung on the wall.
